I had some experience doing surveys before this course, but what I knew was limited to communicating with people by using the management tool of the Affinity-Reality-Communication (ARC) triangle. The ARC Triangle is so basic that even an introductory level study of it is enough to be able to successfully apply it. So, when starting the ìMarketing and Public Relations Surveyî course, I imagined that Iíd just cover the same data with lots of drills added.

I was wrong! I was surprised when I read ìCreating Surveys.î The reference contained a lot of data about how to put ARC into oneís survey, and how one can use the survey results to make a good program for a Public Relations campaign. I have to say I really learned a lot from this course.

I now understand why surveying is important. I learned more about condition formulas that one uses to improve conditions (operating states) and ethics, which consist of rationality toward the highest level of survival for the individual and everyone and everything that he is concerned about. I learned some of the basics about condition formulas before, but this course gave me a much more detailed perspective on the subject. Specifically, I learned a wide range of conditions ranging from confusion all the way to power each with its own formula. Using that data, I understand how to keep an organization expanding continually.

I

I recently finished the course ìHow to Get Along with Others.î I learned about the Tone Scale (a scale used to identify a personís mood, attitude or emotion) and ARC Triangle. The ARC Triangle stands for (A) affinity, (R) reality and (C) communication. They form a triangle and are intimately connected with each other, meaning if you raise or lessen one corner the other corners will raise or lessen as well. These two things really got my attention when I was doing the course. I liked the idea of being able to spot people and predict their actions. This can really help you when youíre choosing your friends or boyfriend/ girlfriend. It could also help at work with your boss. I also really liked the ARC Triangle. After reading the data you know how to improve relations with others. I know what happens when I lessen or raise one of the corners of the triangle.

I really enjoyed this course and can really apply all the data I learned to my everyday life. I actually already did while on this course. There was this friend I had in high school. We were actually best friends. We would hang out and talk to each other all the time. We got along really well; I think it was because we had a lot of things in common. Anyways we had a falling out. We would hang out occasionally but not like before. I really missed that bond that we had. I decided to call him and get in communication with him and find out how he was doing. I was surprised to find out that he also missed hanging out like old times. Just from one phone call we had established more ARC with each other. We talked and planned a day that we could hang out with each other. So as you can see this data does really work.

By Gloria Liu, a Taiwanese student from Taipei on the associate degree program at the Hubbard College of Administration (HCA), Los Angeles, CA.

After the course “Effective Leadership,” I gained more knowledge of what an executive should be and do. This course not only tells you how to be an executive, but also tells you how to appoint other executives. An executive is not only in charge of a group of employees; an executive could also be in charge of a group of executives. Therefore, it is important that executives choose good executives to work with as well as choosing good workers.

Just designating a person to be an executive isn’t enough. You have to observe them, supervise them and test them. What if you discover that he or she is not a good executive? What should you do next? There is a certain way to handle the situation. Those are some of the techniques that I learned.

There are known successful ways to operate as an executive. I do not need to always take the risk of making an untried decision because I know exactly what should be done. And, I will do it.

Having good knowledge of my area and gaining effective knowledge to achieve any desired objective are key elements of effective leadership.

Hubbard College of Administration is a self-paced business school that offers an exceptional business administration curriculum, unique learning technology, life-changing apprenticeships and internships, assistance with job placement and a lifetime warranty for students. I just completed the “Effective Leadership” course.

In my first blog post I gave a little bit of information about myself– now you can learn about some others and see the veritable melting pot we have here.

Today I sat down in Interview Room #300 with Franco Chaves, a 21-year-old student attending the Hubbard College and talked a bit about his life goals and experience at the HCA so far.

Me: First off, where are you originally from?
Franco: Lima, Peru.

Me: And how did you hear about the Hubbard College?
Franco: I heard about the Hubbard College through a high school tutor who used the study technology that is used here at the college. One day she brought me here on a tour and then bang, I was interested. When I finished school and started considering college, my first choice was here.

Me: What program are you on currently?
Franco: Well, I first started on an Administrative Management Program. When I finished it I decided to do the degree program. So now I’m on the degree program getting my Associates.

Me: Did you attend the Sales Workshop here April 4th and what did you think about it?
Franco: Yes, I’ve gone to four of them now! I like that there’s practice of the techniques of how to sell! I also like that I could talk to the seminar speaker and he helped me with the application of the techniques.

Me: What in particular has made your Hubbard College career education stand out from the rest of the career colleges and business schools out there?
Franco: Because of the apprenticeships here- I can practice what I learn and I meet different business people at the same time.

Me: Have You Planned out how you’re going to find a job after finishing your program?
Franco: I will be working with the job placement service here at HCA. I’m not worried. Also I’ve made many friends here from different places: Los Angeles, Lebanon, Japan, Russia, Columbia, Cuba, and many other countries. I’m sure I will keep in touch with them throughout my career. You never know…

Me: Is there something that stands out in your experience here so far that you would like to mention?
Franco: Yeah, being sent to different apprenticeships gave me a real good understanding of how companies work and how the structure works. This helps because it gives me ideas of how I can use the structures and plans they use in my own company.

Me: What are your immediate plans after you get your Associate Degree here?
Franco: My plans are to become an American Citizen, work, save up more money and eventually go back to Peru and open a business consultant company.

Be it PR, organizational patterns or marketing, I’m introduced to new aspects of that field as well as practice the theories and tools I learn on my course. The apprenticeships also open up the door to more career opportunities and let me work in any given field for a week or two, building my portfolio before even finishing school!

Just recently after finishing my PR course I went to apprentice at a company and ended up learning how to do a formal case study and write press releases. At first when I was told that I’d be interviewing clients, designing and writing a case study and then writing press releases, I was stumped. I didn’t learn that on my course… That’s why I guess there are apprenticeships here. I got to put tools from my course to use when interviewing their clients for the case studies and in interviewing the clients I learned a lot about the retail business.

I came out at the end with a great final product. I was even offered a job there once I complete my associate degree!
